spooky photos

I am so excited to have a post for today's Brag Monday at The Graphics Fairy. If you haven't checked out this blog, run there now!

Like some of the labels from my Vintage Bottles, I got all of these images from The Graphics Fairy. The ornament hanger was from the Dollar Tree, but was shiny gold/brass, so I spray painted it black. The frames are also sold at the Dollar Tree as place cards in the wedding aisle. Again, those were ivory, so I got out the handy spray paint for those too (if you notice, one of the frames is peeling apart a bit, I could easily glue it,  I just haven't got around to it.)
I printed the images out on white paper, using Word to get them roughly the right size. Then I soaked them in coffee for 5-10 minutes.  They were very delicate after I took them out, so if you try this be really gentle with the paper. I lightly crumpled, creased, or in a few cases tore the paper, then smoothed them out a little and laid them out on paper towels to dry. Once dry, you can also add drips of more coffee to give them a really aged look, but I liked the way they came out so I skipped that step.
Then I just hung them with orange embroidery thread! Since I had the spray paint and coffee, it only cost me a dollar for the frames, and a dollar for the ornament hanger. My kind of project!

The hardest part was getting the frames to all hang facing forward! Also, don't mind the black smudges of paint in the background. That's a hutch remake that we haven't quite finished yet!

  11. Hi Leah-

What would we do without the dollar store and the Graphics Fairy? They allow us to make so many creative and decorative items for our homes. Your Halloween tree looks perfect for the season - I love the added extra spooky touch of the black cat, too.
    My best- Diane
