Me

I'm a 30 something Mom, wife, and school bus driver. I love spending time with my kids, and *gasp* getting away from them too! I love sitting on the deck & drinking mojitos with my husband while listening to the Rat Pack. I stay creative (and SANE) by dabbling in crafts and working on my Victorian home. I'm passionate about thrift shopping, cheesy romance novels, and autism awareness.

just a LITTLE nuts

I realize a lot of people probably think we're nuts for letting  a THREE YEAR OLD have an iPad. Don't worry, I think we're a little nuts too. The reason we didn't wait... Samantha needs it now. She can speak and at one point had 50 words, but she has had a significant regression since school started, and we want to make sure she has every opportunity to KEEP the skills she learns. Also, it has been shown again and again that the earlier kids learn language, the easier it is.

So, to keep this incredibly expensive and fragile tool working for years to come...

  • This is not a tool Sami will be bring places for now. Or even walking around with.
  • She will be sitting, with an adult at all times when it's being used.
  • We're getting an Otterbox iPad Defender case. It's seems pretty heavy duty!
  • We'll hopefully also get the accident protection plan. We only have a few days to add that on, so I'll have to convince my husband we need it!
  • Also, Samantha has never ever thrown or hit out of frustration or anger. She just doesn't. So I'm not too concerned about that, but like I said, it will be a sitting with adult tool only.

She's already doing so well with it!

This is a reward page after a matching game.
This takes serious concentration!

Some more news... we're looking into getting a speech therapist for home appointments once or twice a week. Every little bit!

I always feel like I need to add this, and I hate that BUT... We're not trying to change Samantha. We love her just the way she is. She's perfect to us. But she's happier when she's able to communicate with us. IT's obvious to everyone who knows her. Not being able to tell us what she wants is very frustrating for her, and we clearly see the satisfaction on her face on the rare occasion she is able to tell us. I'm going to do everything possible to make sure she's happy.
